The Professionals - Past & Present

Delamere has been fortunate in having only 4 Professionals since its foundation over 100 years ago in 1910:

1910 – 1945 James Arundel who joined the club from Prestwick, hailing from a prominent Scottish golfing family

1945 – 1990 Dennis Comboy a local man being a highly talented golfer and renowned local teacher whose wife Carol, an exceptional golfer in her own right became Curtis Cup Captain

1990 – 2007 Ellis Jones who initially caddied on the course and joined Dennis Comboy as his assistant in 1955, succeeding him as Head Professional in 1990

2007 to date Martin Brown who qualified as a PGA Professional in 1990 and is now a Class AAT PGA Member and Level 3 Coach.

pgaMartin is a local man who has spent a career in golf initially at local Cheshire clubs then as assistant to Tommy Horton at Royal Jersey GC, subsequently becoming Director of Golf at Rutherford Castle in Peeblesshire and Head Professional at Fulford GC near York. He joined Delamere upon the retirement of Ellis Jones in 2007.

Martin combines a passion for golf with strong teaching and game improvement credentials leading his team from a newly built well stocked Professional’s shop where members and visitors can find the premier brand names in golf. To add to this Martin has designed and installed the most modern teaching facilities in the area using state of the art computer technology backed up by simple, ‘down to earth’ advice.

As a visitor the Professional’s shop is an ideal starting point where you will receive a warm welcome and sound input on any aspect of the course or the club.

Visitors and societies are encouraged to discuss their requirements with Martin - his details can be found on our Contact Us page.

For lessons and other shop related issues Martin can also be contacted on mbrown@tgigolf.com
